Should We Offer Piwik Hosted? Let Us Know!

UPDATE: › Survey Results!

We are preparing to announce Piwik 1.2 soon with some great new features. We are able to do this because our friends at Jirafe, an ecommerce analytics company, sponsored some of the new features for 1.2 (stay tuned!)

We have also been discussing with Jirafe the possibility for a hosted version of Piwik for those who do not want to manage their own Piwik server infrastructure.

We need feedback from the Piwik community to let us know if this is of interest. Please help by filling out the following survey:

We look forward to continuing to build Piwik for our users and community!

you should, not for me, but it is necessary to be a widely usable alternative for analytics. (If this is the goal.) I think the main advantage of anlytics for the most people and many small sites is the simple “deployment” – make an account and just paste the tracking code.
The main problem will be, that people will not pay much if any – they pay Google with their data and think it is for free…

The investigation then directed deputies towards business wherever police reported they found counterfeit jewellery and glasses in units. A search of an back room resulted in the breakthrough of a multitude of counterfeit handbags carrying names for example Coach, Chanel, Male impotence Hardy, Versace, in addition to Dolce in addition to Gabbana

My 5 cents: go hosted, but only after your user base has grown – focus on your USP (self-hosting) ’til than …

hey, what kind of blog is this here. I tried contributing my comment here for three times the last days and it still don’t show up. what’s the problem with this?

  15. Kay Strobach Says:

hosting can be a service of a piwik inc.
BUT piwik must stay open and we need the ability to host it on our own server without publishing data.

That’s the only reason for piwik (nearby the TYPO3 integration ;) ).

Looking forward to the new version! Hope among the new features will be a plugin to automatically reduce the size of unused old data. Database size is slowly becoming a problem the longer I use Piwik.

you can host it yourself–webmasters’s wish

Of course, if Piwik Hosted becomes available, Piwik will always stay GPL and open source and available as options. The survey is about adding this new service!

A major advantage of Pikwik is its robust protection of the data, if you were to go hosted then the data would then become the property of the hoster or be sitting there waiting for some genius to spot opportunities to exploit the data.

Does this then remove the real USP from the Piwik proposition?

  20. Chris Says:

As Hugh & rick stated above, going hosted would spell certain doom for Piwik. The only reason why I don’t use GA is due to concerns over my proprietary search engineering being exploited & sold to the adwords masses. If it is a dire revenue issue, than please start charging a licensing fee, otherwise, I and probably (at least) 70% of current Piwik users will be leaving enmasse for the evil empire.

  21. February 23, 2011 5:10 pm

    stay and have success!

  22. February 23, 2011 1:42 pm

I think it would be a cool feature, but it should also be possible to host it on his own server.

  23. rick Says:

    >>Please don’t go hosted
    agreed, please not go hosted

  24. Hugh Saunders Says:

    February 23, 2011 8:43 am

Hi Please don’t go hosted, the advantage of piwik over GA is that you can host it yourself. Loose that and you might as well use GA.

  25. February 23, 2011 8:22 am

Why not have say what new feature is planned into the news?

  26. Mike Says:

    February 23, 2011 6:00 am

I don’t have any ideological reasons that I don’t want Piwik to do a hosted version, but the Piwik developer resources are a limited commodity, and I’d rather see them go somewhere else.
