Piwik is ready to be translated! We need your help

Piwik is an international open source project, we are happy to announce that you will soon use Piwik in your native language!

Thanks to the work of Maciej Zawadziński, Piwik is now ready to be translated.

Do you use Piwik and your mother tongue is not english?

You can help us translate Piwik in your own language. Send us an email at hello@piwik.org and tell us which language you would like to translate Piwik in.

Do you want to be part of the Piwik team as “Translation coordinator”?

We are looking for someone who would coordinate the translation efforts. You would have to talk to the translators, make sure their translations are up to date whenever possible, help new translators. When several people speaking the same language want to help us with translations, you would ask them to review the existing translation.

It’s a great way to participate in Piwik without tech-development knowledge! :) Contact us if interested.

How does it technically work?

Translations strings are located in files in the /lang/ directory and in every plugin.

  • Copy the english files, rename them using your country 2 letters locale code ; eg. “fr.php”
  • Translate the strings
  • Edit your configuration file config/global.inc.php and change the “current” value in the [Language] section using your 2 letters language iso code.
  • Check all your translations, and make sure they make sense in context
  • Send us a patch containing the translation files (see How to create a patch?)

What features is coming in the future?

  • support for right to left languages
  • support for graph labels translations

    Piwik is awesome!
I’ve made bulgarian translation of Piwik, but I’m not a developer and I don’t know how to create a patch.
Can I send bg.php file to someone?
Also,I can not translate plugins descriptions because they are not in en.php file.Is it possible to add them at the next release of Piwik?

Il est impossible d’utiliser la version française de la traduction fournie avec le zip de la version 0.2.9 de Piwik !
L’administration est bien traduite mais les données des visites ne se chargent pas… alors que l’affichage s’effectue sans problème en remettant le langage par défaut “en” dans global.ini.php !

Is a french version available ?
If not, I’m able to help!

    cheers,

I started with the Dutch translation of Piwik. I also started a google site where dutch translators can cooperate (and maybe provide some dutch support if needed).

Dang, i also translated Piwik to German. Makes me kinda angry, that i spent the last 4 hours to translate it while there is already someone doing it. Why didn´t you guys manage it, that there is only one person who does it for one country? Or at least told us that there is an other person on it, so we can communicate.
    (i didn´t upload it yet, but i have a solution for special characters “ä” = ä, “ö” = ö, “ü” = ü; it´s standard html stuff^^).

I have translated Piwik to german – my patch is attached to ticket #62 in the trac envoirement.

But there are still some problems regarding special chars e.g. äöüß (i hope they will be shown here).
    How to fix this problem?

Sasha, currently yes you’re right to add flash graph in your blog you need to set the stats public. In the future we are planning to add a report based token, so you can choose which report you want to export. Stay tuned..
