If you have a question for us at Piwik that has not been answered before, feel free to flick us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and we shall pop the answer up here for all to see. Thanks!
We will support Piwik Mobile 1.x for a few months and keep the app in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. After some months we will remove it from the stores. You will still be able to download the version from our website but we won’t guarantee it will work with upcoming versions of Android and iOS. Of course the code will still be available in the future.
No! The app will be again available for free.
We believe that mobile and the web is the future. But the current mobile web app doesn’t give you the best and fastest user experience on your Android and iOS device. So the answer is yes, there will still be a native app.
Yes, we plan to release an app in additional markets such as Windows Phone and BlackBerry. Basically, this will be the Mobile Web app (HTML5) packaged in a native container using PhoneGap. The user experience won’t be as good as a native app but better than the actual web version of Piwik. Especially on newer devices.
1) Unzip the downloaded files
2) Upload the unzipped files to your server, on the same domain as your Piwik installation. For instance upload all files to: http://piwik.example.com/mobileweb.
3) Visit the directory you have uploaded to start the Mobile app
There is currently only one limitation due to the Same Origin Policy. You can add only Piwik accounts that belong to the same protocol and some host under which the mobile app is running. For instance if Piwik Mobile is running under “http://piwik.example.com/mobileweb”, you can only add Piwik accounts from “http://piwik.example.com/” and not accounts from let’s say “http://demo.piwik.org”.
After your browser loaded the Mobile App, shrink the size of your browser window and reload the page.
The targeted browser are:
What you are seeing in the preview is more or less the feature set of the Piwik Mobile 2.0 release. Be sure we have lots of ideas how to improve Piwik Mobile in the future. We plan to unify Piwik and Piwik Mobile more and more. There is also the idea that you browse some statistics in the web and when you open the mobile app, you will be able to continue browsing on the same report and website. For a better dashboard integration we also want to implement more widgets, for instance “Real time visitor count”. In addition, we will optimize the version for different form factors. For instance displaying more data on tablets to get the information you want even faster. Of course there are also some awesome features waiting for integration like “Custom Alerts” and “Segmentation”.
Yes! The source code is available on GitHub: https://github.com/piwik/piwik-mobile-2. Just send us a pull request. It’s even better if you create a ticket in Trac upfront to introduce your idea there. This way you can involve the whole community.
