Piwik Ecommerce Extension for Magento

The Magento/Piwik Community now has a free and open source plugin to simply setup Ecommerce tracking with Piwik in your Magento shop!

Created by Adrian Speyer, this new plugin works on the community edition of Magneto (1.7) and is loosely based on the Google Analytics core extension. Once you install  it, you will find it in the Magento menu under Sales:

The new plugin is quick to install, all you need to do is enter you site id and your Piwik path. If the configuration page does not show up, make sure you refresh your cache.

Once enabled the plugin will automatically insert the Piwik Tracking code into your Magento install. Not only will it give you the standard tracking, it automatically sets up the Ecommerce tracking that you would expect: product & category views, cart updates, orders and more.

You can download the Magento extension here. If you want to fork or view source code, it is available on Github. He has also provided a quick YouTube video with a rundown of how it works and how to use it. There is also a Video tutorial here.

You can also check out Adrian’s other free Piwik addon’s for Concrete5 and Vanilla Forums. If you need more detailed instructions or have questions, contact Adrian via his blog post on the extension: http://www.statstory.com/piwik-ecommerce-extension-for-magento/

PS: Check out the other Ecommerce plugins for Pretashop, osCommerce and Oxid esales on the Plugins page.

Make sure you are using Magento version 1.7 or greater. This extension will not work on lower versions– see my website StatStory FAQ for more details. You can use on multi-website, by changing website on top left of the Magento site.

I just installed the module, enabled it through system -> configuration -> piwik analytics control.
On the front end, everything shows up except for the footer (which is where I believe piwik inserts the tracking code ?)

Do I need to change anything in my footer configuration for this module to work ?

Also, I have a multi store configuration. Will I be able to give each store its own analytics code and access to only the store’s statistics ?

The issue is usually related to Paypal set-up. Users must click “return to site” after paying with PayPal to have the sale record as a success. I have tested the site with Paypal Sandbox and it works with express, standard and pro. I also have it working on live sites with these setups. Make sure you are using the the latest Magento and version of the plugin. There might be other conflicts in play.

Can you try to log out and back in. There seems sometimes to be a bug in Magento with cache clearing.

Got 404. Clearing cache does not help…

I’ve hit another problem – all my sales are reported as abandoned carts. Payments are using PayPal and seem to have gone through OK in Magento. Have I configured something wrongly?

As you noted over at Magento store , if you clear the cache, it will work fine.

Doesn’t work for me – I get the new menu item but when I click on it I just get 404.
