I've used OpenX in the past and it was a bit too cumbersome for the minimum ad serving I was doing. As an awesome replacement, I would recommend using WP-Ads, assuming you are operating a Word Press blog.
WP-Ads is a simple plugin that allows for ad creation, rotation, and even the ability to assign weight to a certain ad. This has been working for me just great, at least until I need a bigger hitter like OpenX.

We are using openx to serve ads for our free web hosting sites. The ability to geo-target ads is one of the features that comes in handy big time and the script is highly stable. highly recommended.

Our 2.8 installation got a serious security exploit, the code was manipulated and the site was blocked by Google from being a malware source. We've since switched to AdSpeed.com, a hosted service that's pretty easy to use with much better support than I got from OpenX community.

OpenX Ad Server 2.8 sounds very interesting. I've tried the online demo but I'm not sure if I'll use it. I already have a custom-made ad system but I'm considering replacing my current system with OpenX.
